American designer and king of pop culture Jeremy Scott has been appointed the new creative director of the Italian luxury fashion house, Moschino.  The 39-year-old L.A.-based designer replaces Rossella Jardini, who has headed up the label since 1994, when the house founder, Franco Moschino, suddenly died of a heart attack. Scott has a history with the brand previously working for their New York press office so it’s safe to say that it will be in good hands!

Franco Moschino who founded the brand in 1983, based his design on the mocking of the fashion industry and spoofing high fashion lines through his clothes. He also parodied the fashion classics such as the Chanel jacket with garish trimmings and details. Ironically, many rushed to wear his clothes, thus becoming successful and famous in the industry he satirized.

Scott has a similar design style, using images and slogans of pop culture making generally ugly clothes into cult like trends. Take the Bart Simpson knits made internationally recognisable by Cara Delevigne. The match has been widely heralded as perfect, the similarities between Scott and Moschino will make for an updated version of a classic brand.

‘For me, one of the key elements of Moschino is humour. It’s one of the few houses that has humor, and it’s the same thing for me,’ says Jeremy.

Jeremy Scott will make his runway debut at Moschino’s Fall 2014 show in February next year
