Spa Hotel Review: Myhotel Bloomsbury, London

Bloomsbury suite

Myhotel Bloomsbury is situated in a superb location, just minutes from Tottenham Court Road tube station and a short walk from Shaftesbury Avenue, London’s theatre district. Oxford Street, the capital’s shopping mecca is also on the doorstep, so whatever you are looking to do in London this hotel serves as the perfect base.

There is a stylish boutique vibe throughout the hotel, and a relaxed atmosphere is evident from the moment you walk through the door and enter the reception. At the front desk we were greeted warmly by David, friendly and efficient he checked us in quickly and offered restaurant recommendations in the surrounding area.

The Valentine’s package my boyfriend and I opted for included a one night stay in the Junior Suite (from £179.00) and the Jinja Wellbeing workshop for two, the art of massage for couples (£90). The Jinja wellbeing spa is located on the basement level of the hotel, and is an instantly calming and soothing space. Our masseuse Christina talked us through the workshop itinerary. One of us would go through and have a 25 minute private session, and then the other would then be taught how to give the perfect massage before swapping roles.

I opted to go second, and so waited in the tranquil seating area with a complimentary herbal tea and the latest glossy magazines. When it was time for my lesson Christina walked me through to the treatment room where step-by-step she showed me each massage movement and watched as I practiced. Although there was a lot to take in and at first it was quite daunting she was a great teacher and ensured I understood how to do each step before moving on the next.

After 25 minutes it was then my turn to be massaged. Christina worked wonders on my back and shoulders before asking my boyfriend to come back in for his lesson. After the workshop, which was around 100 minutes, we were given written instructions and a ready mixed bottle of massage oil to take home. Overall it was a great experience, enjoyable and unique, definitely one I would recommend.

Our room, a Junior Suite, was spacious and tastefully decorated. With a well stocked mini bar, free wi-fi, iPod dock, and well-stocked tea and coffee-making facilities, there was everything you could need to enjoy your stay. The large bathroom came with fluffy robes and comfy slippers and a range of luxury Anya eco-friendly toiletries. Two glasses of Champagne were brought up to the room for us – these were part of the Valentine’s package – and were a great way to start our relaxing evening.

The room, as with the hotel in general, has the five star feel of a large luxury hotel chain but with the small details and personal touches of independent boutiques found in trendier parts of the city. Myhotel Bloomsbury seems to balance the chain and boutique vibe perfectly. Despite the suite being road facing it was surprisingly quiet at night, and we had a restful night sleep in the luxurious king size bed.

The complimentary continental breakfast was served in GAIL’S Kitchen, the hotel’s artisan bakery. A smell of fresh bread is ever-present, and despite the delicious pastries and sourdough toast this breakfast is perhaps a little light for those looking to fuel a busy day sightseeing.

Myhotel Bloomsbury is the perfect choice for those looking for a great location with five star service and a quiet and restful sleep. The Valentine’s package is ideal for couples looking for some much-needed rest and relaxation minutes away from the heart of London and all at a reasonable price.
