Like many of this year’s shows at New York Fashion Week, designers have been taking it back to the streets, with their collections, adding an urbanised allure to the garments.

Unsurprisingly, Alexander Wang kept the street style aesthetic in mind for this collection, not swaying far from his usual approach, sticking with his muted palette of monochrome and neutrals, while focusing on texture and design. Just one season into his European venture, this collection made it clear that he his own brand would not and will not be overshadowed by the swanky Balenciaga project.

Starting off with a twist on menswear that had a laid-back, playful edge, the show progressed into the expected luxe sportswear pieces. Sending out models in soft men’s cotton shirting and matching boxers, followed by slouchy knitted shorts, paired with mid-riff bearing, halfbuttoned, grandad cardigans.

His collection was the epitome of self-promotion at its finest, plastering the Alexander Wang logo onto every possible piece, transforming the bold block letters of his logo into everything from guipure lace, to jacquards and stamped leather. We were having a 90’s nostalgia moment after seeing the collection, feeling like we were back in the days of logo mania. If plastering your collection with your name isn’t brand awareness, then we don’t know what is.

Ever a regular at Alexander Wang’s shows, is his niece Aila, who hasn’t gone unnoticed for her unbelievably stylish wardrobe, at the age of just 3! She has been spotted, amongst the likes of Rihanna, wearing Wang’s ‘Parental Advisory’ top, which is sure to become a great seller from his collection.
