New York Fashion Week: Band Of Outsiders S/S’14

A clear inspiration of luxe sport wear was visible in this collection with a plethora of active wear pieces from slouchy hoodies to tiny crisp running shorts. However, a certain relaxed beach appeal with a hint of masculinity was definitely felt, giving the collection a whole new edge, fresh feeling and original.

The show started with a nod the 1990’s with an abundance of handkerchief hemlines, bias cut silky fabrics and tiny running style shorts, given a contemporary twist in crisp colours and fabrics with raw finishes for a less polished effect. Head to toe white with mixtures of loose blazers, athletic shorts and multi texture t-shirts and shirts add a much need preppy appeal to the show which we loved. The collared shirts with the running shorts in dazzling white were unquestionably one of our favourite looks from the show.

As the show moved on a more bohemian vibe definitely came into light with flowing barely printed maxi dresses in halter styles fitting with the 90’s vibes throughout. The blue and white printed chiffon two piece set looks impeccable with thin drawstring details and beach ready aviators, perfect for covering up on route to the beach. With most of the collection styled with socks and sandals, adding to the preppy sport vibes, I think we can expect to see the trend continue through next summer from this one, the more contrasting the sock the better!

As the show came to a close we were treated to chic sleeveless jackets and trench coats, teamed with pastel yellow (sure to be the colour of spring!) and mesh fabrics with sweat pant style pencil skirts. Hands down it may not be their best collection but Band of Outsiders has made sport luxe completely wearable and feminine with this beautiful collection.
