New York Fashion Week: DKNY S/S’14

Sticking to their street wear staple origins, DKNY didn’t fail to bring us a new wave of their signature style for spring summer 2014 collection. Celebrating their 25th birthday, they celebrated the landmark in the industry by bringing us new updates on their signature pieces over the last two and a half decades. An array of scuba pieces, denim dungarees, patched jackets and slouchy oversized layers dominated the collection with an exultant trip down memory lane with a soundtrack to match; “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party)”.

Starting off with a range of denim basics layered up with loose city tailored blazers we defiantly felt a classic DKNY urban edge. Nothing says city cool like their oversized dungarees and patched denim trousers, more certainly a trend we’re likely to see worked into the high street next summer. As the show moved we were treated to slouchy rain coats in everything from airy lightweight fabrics to structured above-the-knee neoprene showstoppers.

Hints of pastel defiantly added a trend focused update to the show. Layered candy pink and yellow bodysuits teamed with loose city shorts and relaxed tailoring brought a polished edge to the collection. The loose head to toe pastel yellow suit was a real statement piece for the collection, a relaxed contrasting edge to the stiff denims and scuba fabrics.

The show was perfectly finished by new face of DKNY Rita Ora dancing down the catwalk in an amazing printed t-shirt combo with a textural layered skirt with a netted underlay.  I think we can expect to see Rita rocking a lot more DKNY ensembles in the coming months!
