New York Fashion Week: Nicole Miller S/S’14

A collection inspired by Versailles, ‘from the estates over-the-top gardens and intricate mazes, to the fed-up peasant women storming the Chateau, breaking all the monarchy’s awesome china.’ A deeply thought-out muse that would undoubtedly spark an ever so intricately designed collection, which is exactly what we got with Nicole Miller’s Spring 2014

Collection. The Versailles disposition is beautifully echoed through the shattered china shapes within the prints and embellishments, along with delicate, tastefully arranged gems, depicting the chandeliers of the grand Versailles Chateau.

Kicking off the show with a draped, mixed print dress, the mood was set for the rest of the show. With delicate floral prints, alongside heavy fabrics and geometric patterns, it was reminiscent of the chaos, and clash of classes described in the Versailles inspiration.

Undertones of the Versailles social classes continue to be presented throughout, with the contrast of ripped denim and frayed edges, against opulent embellishments, leather and luxurious fabrics.

As the show progressed, the collection got edgier, and much more embellished. From a pretty floral trench coat, to a leather waistcoat, the show was exciting and thought provoking, with each model stepping out in something unpredictable, but equally, perfectly in-fitting with the collections concept. Bursting with an array of fabrics, colours, prints and beading, the Nicole Miller Spring 2014 collection most definitely told a story that is sure to stick with us, and have our Spring 2014 wish-lists doubling in size after Fashion Week.
