Located in the heart of Sydney’s city centre, Evoke is the perfect place to stop by for all things hair related – whether it’s a snip or major overhaul that you’re after.

Small but chic, this compact space has all of your usual signature salon services and a modern vibe thanks to its monochrome interior. What’s more, Evoke offers an array of beauty and make-up treatments – basically it’s a pit-stop for all your grooming requirements.

I popped by on a Thursday evening to test out the salon’s hair offerings and was greeted by the manager, Tina, who sat me down for a chat all things hair-related. Speaking about my sorry affair of dry locks and straggly ends, we both agreed that it was in need of some serious shaping up. I’d been having my usual balayage top-ups for a while, but Tina suggested I sample babylights. It’s a similar style of technique, but involves adding teeny tiny highlights to strands to create a fine and fresh hue to hair. I agreed and sat patiently armed with mags and a cuppa while Tina precisely painted super fine sections of my mane. Working her magic, she strategically placed the dye in areas of my hair that would help frame my face and create a beachy sun-kissed look.

It took around twenty minutes of waiting for the colour to develop before I was taken over to the basin area for the next step. This involved applying a toner to my barnet in order to keep my locks looking bright and glossy. After the toner had developed, my hair was washed and conditioned, before I was led over to the cutting chair. Snipping away my dead ends, Tina removed just an over an inch of my locks’ length and added a few layers in the ends for a lighter and more manageable style.

Finally, Tina set about styling my new locks and I opted for bouncy waves to contrast with the babylights. Once she had spritzed my strands with a heat-protecting spray, Tina blow dried my hair in to a smooth and sleek finish to keep any dreaded frizz at bay. She then used straighteners to style my locks in to waves, before gently pulling them out for a tousled surf look. And of course, she used that all-important hairspray to set my mane in place.

For an efficient service, fresh locks and a friendly atmosphere, Evoke ticks all the boxes.
