The Hotel Review: Barceló Castello Royal Level, Fuerteventura

Avenida del Castillo, s/n 35610 Caleta de Fuste, Antigua, Fuerteventura

Review: Val Jones

Barceló Castello Royal Level is laid out in style of a Canarian Village; the typically white buildings are spread across the resort and run along the harbour and sea front. The hotel takes its’ name from the 18th century Castle that has been preserved and sits next to the resort.  The town of Caleta de Fuste is around a 20-minute car ride away from the airport where taxis outside are readily available. Average temperatures in the Canaries are between 19 and 25 degrees, making this a great destination all year round.

The hotel itself has a full entertainment programme that will keep all ages busy but if you feel you want to explore the area of Caleta there are lots of sporty and social options including scuba diving and sailing activities along with golf courses, bowling cinema and shopping. Should you wish to travel further afield take a visit to the Zoo and also the renowned sand dunes at Corralejo.

There is a separate check in desk for the Royal Level and all facilities were explained to us, we were given a map of the resort which assisted us a lot during our stay. Half-board basis guests get 30% discount on selected bars and restaurants in the resort. We stopped to have lunch at the Noray Sports Bar on the Marina – which had lovely food and beautiful views.

The entrance to our Royal Level Sea View Suite was through a private gated area, with its’ own private infinity pool, comfortable sun-beds including some Balinese sun-beds and a snack bar. Our suite featured three rooms; bedroom, bathroom and lounge with mini kitchen and full size fridge should you wish to self-cater. This was a suite of an impressively large size, facilities and with a modern feel. The bedroom had a huge comfy bed and choice of pillows. We chose not to cater for ourselves as we had booked half board, although if we had wanted to all facilities were provided including cooking rings and a microwave. The south facing balcony was lovely with views of the sea and bay.

The bathroom was again contemporary and had a great rain fall shower and plenty of towel changes throughout our stay. Complementary toiletries were topped up on a regular basis together with fluffy robes and slippers.

Thalasso U-Spa

Facilities; 5 individual treatment rooms with oriental themes | Thermal circuit | studio for organised activities | fitness studio | organised water fitness activities.

Guests of the hotel have complementary access to the spa and we particularly enjoyed the pools for a relaxed swim both indoors and outdoors, and made full use of the various indoor plunge pools.  A stress relieving sauna session is just the ticked to unwind ready for pre-dinner cocktails.

The hotel offered lots of choice of bars and restaurants across the sea front, as part of our package we could use the El Ancla and El Castillo Buffet Restaurants for breakfast and evening meal. We chose to go to the El Ancla restaurant as we enjoyed the atmosphere it felt more intimate than the larger restaurants and was exclusive to Royal Level guests.

The chief station offered freshly cooked dishes both international and local, and there was a huge choice from the buffet. The staff service and sea views just fantastic, we can highly recommend a visit to dine here.
