The Buckland Tout Saints Hotel is a 17th Century luxury country house hotel situated ten minute drive from Kingsbridge; a quaint town offering boutique shops to browse and plenty of places to have a drink. The hotel is a Grade II listed building  and makes for a secluded, location-perfect hotel which is dog friendly and boasts grand grounds for that essential walk with or without your dog (wellies are provided).

Just a further ten minute drive away is the seaside resort of Salcombe, well worth a visit with its’ picturesque harbour and  a place where we had a lovely lunch in the Victoria Inn, a great pub, with a welcoming open fire. There’s lots to do in the surrounding areas while visiting the Buckland hotel and a lovely highlight is the Jamaica Inn and Museum, made famous by the Daphne du Maurier’s book and TV series.

Our accommodation for the night was the Primrose Suite, where all furnishing were in-keeping within the period of the house. There was a separate spacious lounge with a sofa, dining table and just to keep in touch with today’s tech, a plasma TV.

The bedroom was utterly fabulous and features an absolutely huge four poster bed which housed no less than three horizontal sets of pillows . I have never seen a bed as imposing or slept in one as comfy. A second flat screen TV was positioned on the far wall so you could watch TV in bed and heavy, brocade drapes adorned the windows.

We’ve often come across the hotel luxury of His and Her sinks, however the grandeur of the Buckland steps it up several notches here with His and Her bathrooms, (yes, you read that correctly!) our suite had one bathroom each each, both decked out with white and blue ornate patterned tiles, opulent gold fittings, ESPA toiletries and fluffy robes and slippers.

In the evening prior to dinner in the Queen Anne dining room, we chose to have a glass of wine in the lounge where we sat in front of a roaring fire set in the impressive stone fire place, whilst we perused our menu choices. The staff service had been great so far so we were looking forward to being spoilt for dinner.

We were seated in the plush dining room where Head Chef Dan Tee has been awarded 2AA Rosettes. and traditional portraits adorned the walls.  To start I had Salcombe White Crab, English Radish, Swede and Sweet & Sour Apple, for my main meal I had the Confit Pork Belly, Crushed Swede, Roast Pineapple dressed in a Sage Crisps Jus. The dessert menu was amazing and it took a while to choose, but I finally opted for the Caramalised White Chocolate, Orange Curd with Pecan Candy.

If you are looking for wonderful and grand country-house hotel with impeccable customer service, we cannot recommend Buckland St Tout highly enough. This is the place to enjoy a complete chill whilst still in driving distance of some wonderful sights.
