The Hotel Review: Wordsworth Hotel and Spa

Review: Nichola Hirst

The Wordsworth Hotel and Spa is set in the beautiful village of Grasmere in the Lake District. The cosy country hotel has 38 individually designed bedrooms which include a selection of grand suites and some rooms are dog-friendly, as after all, this is a scenic spot for keen walkers, pooches included. Wordsworth boosts the award-winning restaurant, Signature, and there is also a newly appointed spa.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted by a friendly receptionist who explained all the needed info for our stay. We were staying in a Garden View Room, which as the name suggests, came with lush garden views of the grounds.  The room was decked out in plush furnishings in chocolate and muted hues and included all the facilities needed including tea and coffee making facilities with Grasmere Gingerbread. The bathroom added a touch of luxury with our favourite Temple Spa toiletries, fluffy bath robes and slippers.

If you as anyone who knows me, they will tell you I cannot visit any hotel without trying the Afternoon Tea – it is by far my favourite dinning choice, so when I discovered Wordsworth Hotel have an option of Thai Inspired afternoon tea, I was in my element.  This was an Asian feast of savoury bites including Thai Green Fishcakes, Vegetable Spring Rolls, Tempura Prawns, Calamari Rings, and Aromatic Thai Style Dipping Sauce. Mini desserts followed in the shape of Warm Mango Scones with Lemon Curd, Chantilly Cream & Butter, Lemongrass & Coconut Pannacotta, Tropical Fruit Macaroons, Banana & Sesame Fritters, and Pandan Scented Sticky Rice.

When we had taken some time to digest for the rest of the afternoon, it was time for the next culinary treat. Dinner. We headed to the Signature restaurant; a cosy dining room with a full glass wall looking on to Grasmere village. The tables were set fine dining white cloths and atmospheric flickering candles. As we were staying for two nights at the hotel, we dinned from Signature menu on our first night and enjoyed a meal from the Dove Bistro menu on the second night, both menus offered a selection to please foodie lovers and we enjoyed the following;
