THE SPA HOTEL REVIEW: ROOKERY HALL HOTEL & SPA, CHESHIRE

Rookery Exterior

Review: Clare Adams

The grandeur building that is Rookery Hall, dates back to 1816 and is the celebrity hot spot where David and Victoria Beckham got engaged. Part of the Hand Picked Hotel Group, this venue offers some great retreat offers such as the couple’s Romantic Getaway package, Sunday Night Club and Detox or Rebalancing Spa breaks. This is a perfect spot for Sunday Lunch and Afternoon Tea.

Rookery The Drawing Room

There is a selection of room types ranging from classic bedrooms to junior suite and extra luxurious suites such as the Spode suite, is located in the eaves of the 1990’s wing overlooking the courtyard. A separate living room, large bathroom and option to connect with another bedroom to create a spacious family residence. We stayed in an Executive room, (housed in the separate executive wing of the hotel,) decked out in plush fabrics, ornate but contemporary furniture and sleek bathrooms. The special feature of the executive wing is the ‘Tilevision’ bathrooms where flat screen TV’s are built into the bath tiles for the ultimate in entertainment pampering.

Rookery Hall Feature Room

The award-winning spa is located in the original stable block of the estate and offers a selection of spa breaks and an extensive treatment menu. The deep relaxation room is a must visit with its soothing soft lighting and tranquillity inducing water wall. If your mood is geared towards the more energetic activities, there is a gym, swimming pool and hydrotherapy pool. As we arrived at the Spa & Health Club the atmosphere was relaxed and calm and spa reception staff were immediately friendly and helpful. The pool area was wonderfully light and open with a large Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, and experience shower, the hydrotherapy pool was a firm favourite. Whilst I waited for my treatments in the spa area I relaxed with complementary drinks. Once collected by my therapist and taken to the treatment room which in itself was an oasis of tranquillity with low lighting and quiet background music. I was lucky enough to be embarking in a dual treatment session with the Elemis Skin Specific Facial followed by the Elemis Express Deep Tissue Massage

The Elemis Skin Specific Facial is a bespoke treatment where after an individual skin analysis, products were handpicked to suit my skins needs and mine definitely needed a powerful replenishment recharge to bring back a glow to my tired and dull complexion. This gave my skin a much needed moisture infusion and afterwards my skin felt amazing – if you are in need of the hydration overhaul, I can recommend this. My next treatment was the Elemis Express Deep Tissue Massage using aromatic oils selected with the sensory test (where your sense if smell determines which oil you choose based in what your body most craves; relaxation, or energising.) My therapist took the time to ensure the pressure throughout was what I needed.

Rookery The Restaurant

The Restaurant at Rookery Hall is an acclaimed dining venue in its own right with a 2AA Rosette rating and Chef Matthew Jencitis at the helm. The Nantwich Suites can accommodate intimate private dinner parties and up to 200 people for a reception event.  The Restaurant is located in the original building with the beautiful Jacobean fireplace holding the focal point of the room, the wood panelling and high ceiling. A Market Dinner Menu and A La Carte Menu are available both had a wide range of mouth-watering options that made it hard to choose.

I started with the Rookery Fishcakes, Lemon Mayonnaise, Apple & Fennel Salad, a delight to the taste buds, Myself and my husband had the succulent pork steaks for mains, served with creamed potatoes, roasted root vegetable and braised red cabbage. A highlight of the meal was definitely the selection of British cheeses – a well-curated selection. All the dishes were was deliciously fine dining, without being pretentious and each course was well presented.

For breakfast the next day there was a good choice of continental and a la carte dishes. The scrambled eggs and smoked salmon are a hot pick freshly made to order. The continental buffet was an inviting array of cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt, nuts and seeds, cold meats and cheeses, fruit juice, A selection of fresh bread and a wide choice of jams, marmalades, honey and curds completed the scene.
