Fleur De Lys Medispa Inside

Review: Kathryn Lewsey

In any city, spas can be found in abundence and Sydney is no exception. With such a huge selection of offer it’s hard to pick a decent one but luckily Fleur De Lys ticks all the boxes. Situated in the heart of Paddington, a bus ride from the city centre, this Morrocan-inspired number is a calming oasis in the heart of the hustle and bustle.

As soon as I stepped inside, I instantly felt a wave of tranquility wash over me. With its Eastern-inspired decor, spiced fragrances and soothing atmosphere, it’s just the type of place you want to head for a relaxing spa treatment. After checking in at reception, I was taken to the waiting area to fill out the usual mandatory treatment forms. Sat on a plush wooden cushioned chair, I sipped on a fresh lemon and mint water while I wrote out my details. Small details like fresh roses and delicate lanterns added to the overall feel of the spa.

Hammam roomI was booked in for a full body massage and met my lovely therapist, who introduced me to a selection of delicious fragranced oils. Offering each one for me to smell, I eventually settled on a gorgeous jasmine scent. Once this was completed, I was led over to the treatment room and left me to remove my clothes before I settled on to the massage bed. Its low-lighting, flickering candles and serene music was a gorgeous setting for getting massaged.

My therapist  returned to the room and asked whether there were any specific areas I wanted her to focus on. Being sat at a desk all day had caused havoc to my back and neck so I mentioned these concerns.

Kicking off the treatment, my therapist started off by working her hands from my feet to thighs, using a firm but gentle method. Using the same technique, she concentrated on my neck and shoulders, vigorously kneading out the knots and instantly easing away the tension in my muscles. Not stopping there, I turned over, where my legs were once again given the same treatment, before she massaged my arms, neck and head.

Throughout this hour-long luxurious treatment I felt ridiculously relaxed and at times even felt myself drifting off. My therapists approach was professional, thorough and seriously effective, managing to ease away the stiffness and tension that had gradually built up in my back and shoulders. Walking out an hour later, I felt lighter and super relaxed. With its chilled-out Morrocan vibes and impressive therapists, this is the ultimate indulgent treat when you’re in need of some serious pampering.
