Review: Jennifer Bonfield

The Bulgari Spa, part of the Bulgari Hotel & Residences, is just a few minutes from Harrods in Knightsbridge and  one of the most exclusive spas in central London, offering state of the art facilities to exclusive spa members and hotel guests.

On arrival at the reception area (with a reception desk made from nothing less than glamourous green onyx), I was warmly greeted and offered a soothing infusion of loose ginger tea with a little pot of floral honey. I sat back and relaxed in the reception loungers having escaped the pouring rain outside. The spa staff then gave me a tour of all the facilities and changing rooms where I was shown to the lockers and proceeded to don the soft, fluffy grey robes and toweling slippers.

After a few lengths in the serene pool, a dip in the vitality pool and a little snooze it was time for my treatment, I was having the Neck, Back and Shoulder massage. My therapist Adele came to collect me from the spa, and once in the treatment room she asked me to choose my oil from a sensory test –a blind scent selection which determines what your mind and body needs most from the massage; relaxation or energy revival. My senses led me to choose the Espa Detoxifying Bath & Body Oil, an uplifting blend of purifying cypress, grapefruit and juniper berry to stimulate the lymphatic system and help sweep away toxins. Using a mixture of long sweeping strokes and firm muscle manipulation, this was an excellent treatment to banish the stress of the desk job and quite frankly soothe and relax muscles you never think about giving some TLC (such as the muscles either side of your neck which carry an immense amount of tension). My face was massaged with soothing strokes whilst the Espa Pink Hair and Scalp Mud was used to give my scalp a gentle circulation boosting but super relaxing massage.

My therapist Adele was great and would definitely recommend you request her for treatments. After my massage had finished she escorted me to the post-treatment relaxation room and gave me some great aftercare advice. Adele then left me to relax and possibly have a post treatment dose of shut-eye before heading back to the poolside to awaken and revive my soothed senses in the vitality pool.
