London Fashion Week: Sister by Sibling‏ S/S ’14

The Sister by Sibling show had a whole 50’s/60’s Americana look going on, with the volumised hair, thick winged eyes, and some cheek-flashing, pin-up style shorts. There were most definitely some rockabilly influences, particularly with the denim pencil skirt and pastel cardigan combo, but it was the brands infamous knitwear that took the limelight. Proving themselves as masters of mutating knitwear, we saw a clever take on boucle with a playful neon coral two-piece, and a short, boxy, knitted red suit. The trio, made up of Sid Bryan, Joe Bates and Colette McCreevy, developed an incredible new zigzag stitch which was featured in the collection. Crochet beauties were sent sashaying down the runway, in the form of skirt suits and bikini sets. Textile genii? We think so.

Opening the show was a cute little polka-dot hot pant, and slogan knit sweater number followed by a bell-sleeved dotted mac, paired with a pastel pink swimsuit, which assured us that this season’s Sister by Sibling collection would be a step in a more sweet, prim and pretty direction. A simple black trim gave a welcome punch of edginess to some of the neat, little, crocheted two pieces.

Not ones to shy away from colour, we of course expected to see a flourish of hues with this collection, and that’s exactly what we were served. Pastels to monochrome, and bold pieces in orange, red and yellow were all a feast for the eyes.

As the show drew to a close, it was clear that texture and volume was most definitely the aim, gradually moving from knitwear pieces, to heavily decorated garments, covered with fluffed up flowers. We loved the stringy knitted jumper, paired with the fantastically textured, pastel blue, 50’s style skirt that brought the show to its pinnacle.
