Salon Review: Rush Salon,Chiswick

The after effects of hair extensions left my hair looking a bit like a scarecrow’s, only with less volume and more broken ends, so there was only one thing for it – a drastic appointment with the scissors.

I booked in with Maggie, the Salon Manager at Rush Salon, Chiswick and really hoped she could work her magic on what could only be called, a true hair nightmare. Rush, Chiswick is situated on the bustling Chiswick High Road and full of friendly staff.

On arrival, Maggie greeted me and we had a really good chat about what I wanted and gave me her honest advice, which I really favour in a stylist. I was also in much need of a major highlight injection, as having hair extensions makes it tricky to colour the hair with the same coverage, due to the bonds.  My roots on top were fine, but my roots underneath left a lot to be desired. Maggie worked her magic by blending several small strands of natural looking, baby blonde highlights, to lift the existing colour and blend easily with my natural shade, ensuring I wouldn’t get a band of roots when it starts to grow out.

She advised me that I didn’t actually need such a drastic cut, as first suggested and one to two inches would be more than sufficient. However, I thought if I’m going to get it cut, I may as well do it properly. So for maximum impact and healthy  locks, we finally decided to chop around four to five inches of the length and she also cut in a blunt, face framing fringe.

Highlights applied and colour lifted, I was taken over to get my tresses washed. A toner was applied to combat potential brassiness and a deep conditioning and strengthening Kérastase treatment was applied. Exactly what the hair doctor, if there were such a thing, would prescribe.

So a full head of highlights, a few inches lighter and a short, blunt fringe later, I emerged a new women. Hair is the most important thing in our beauty regime, so having the perfect cut and colour, I have no doubt, gives you all the confidence you need.

My thanks must go out to Maggie for transforming me from an extension-ravished scarecrow, into a sleek, shiny blonde bombshell, in one fell swoop.
