Salon Review: Russell Eaton, Leeds

Review: Rachael Basset

Russell Eaton is an award wining Salon & Spa based in Central Leeds, only a few minutes from the train station. I paid a visit to this dual hair and beauty salon for a hair colour revamp and some bespoke beauty pampering.

Upon arrival I was greeted by the receptionist who took my coat and offered refreshments. Then I was led to my chair  through the sleek, stylish, and seriously contemporary salon. Armed with an amazing latte and the latest glossy mags, Creative Director Robert came to introduce himself and we chatted about my preference of shade for my ‘colour transformation’ appointment (chocolate brown if you please!) . However, after explaining that each person’s idea of “chocolate” brown is different, Robert  produced two mood boards to illustrate the various options (who knew there was so much chocolate brown out there?),  i thought was a great touch to make sure i got the shade i really wanted. After some deliberation, we both agreed on a colour named ‘chocolate box brown’, with a  shade lighter on top than underneath for a different texture. He recommended this particular hue to suit my eye colour and skin tone.

We then went on to discuss the cut, which was just a trim as im trying to grow out my shoulder length locks. In light of this Robert gave me some great tips on how to help it grow including stay away from over colouring, and the importance of using products to suit your hair type.  After our chat about my hair colour, he embarked on a head, neck and shoulder massage. Suggesting two Aveda fragrance oils, he asked me to close my eyes and choose the fragrance that appealed to me most, both were gorgeous but I opted for the first one which i was told was ‘energetic’. After totally relaxing massage Robert went to get my colour ready.

Once the hair colour had been applied, i was taken into the spa section and  introduced me to my beautician, the lovely Sam. I wanted to try out the Shellac finish for my talons, however when discussed with Sam,  (after she cast her eyes over  my weak, brittle nails) she instead recommend opting for the O.P.I Gel nails for more durability.  Whilst my nails were getting a make-over of their own, Sam gave me lots of advice on how to keep my nails in tip top condition.

After my nails were done and dusted, Robert came over with Junior Jade, who took me to have my hair washed. The basins were discreetly tucked away behind the salon, an oasis of tranquility with dimmed, soft lightening. Whilst having my hair washed and my head massaged Jade used the Aveda fragrance oil that I previously choose with Robert for an additional gorgeous  massage.

After my hair washing and massage treatment duo, Robert led me back to the styling chair and it was time for the cut. He was like Edward Scissor hands! An Absolute Pro!

The best thing about my experience at Russell Eaton was that you actually feel like the stylist and beauticians listen to what you want, with  personal focus and attention to detail being key.
I’ve never had so many compliments on my new tresses and talons and my hair feels glossier than ever. It would be quite safe to say this is the best hair colour and cut I have ever had and would personally recommend the salon to anyone craving a pro pamper session and total relaxation retreat.
