The Fifth Fashion Week: Tokyo

Everyone knows the four cities of the fashion month, New York, London Milan and climaxing in Paris. The shows don’t stop however, now the eyes of the fashion press are following the spectacle to Tokyo and their rebranded fashion week for the first time.

Everyone knows Japan for its eclectic style and finally the collections by the equally eccentric designers have been covered with the same amount of excitement as their western counterparts. The “cool Japan” movement has been funded by the Japanese government with an injection of ¥490 Billion (roughly £300million) and a sponsorship by Mercedes Benz.

We think it’s great to showcase designs not just from the known fashion capitols but from all around the world, and especially somewhere as crazy as Tokyo!!

Take a look at our round up of best pieces from the designer collections.

Johan KU

We love these stunning futuristic dresses by Johan Ku. His mixture of fabrics and textures has created interesting structural pieces.

Bunzo Tanada

The exhibition show from Bunzo Tanada showed the designers structure and print. These wearable pieces were gorgeous. Inspired by Native American craftwork, and artistry you can imagine being Pocahontas running through Tokyo in this beautiful ethnic collection.

Yasutaka Funakoshi

The Yasutaka Funakoshi show was a real performance. Inspired by what looks like a horror story sent in a convent in the woods these pieces a cool and quirky. Spooky is his trademark, and a look through his past collections promises that this designer could become the McQueen of the East!
