The Beauty Column: Tanning Takeover: Battle Of The Best

Fake-Tan-Products

Let’s admit it; life is better with a tan. When you’re golden and glowing you feel confident and ready to take on the world. Okay, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but you certainly look and feel better. Tanning is all down to personal preference and there’s really no right or wrong way to do it, providing you keep it looking nice and natural. If you struggle to catch a tan what with the unpredictable and generally disappointing summer England provides us with, then unfortunately you do have to DIY. It sucks, right. An all-year-round tan isn’t too much to ask for, is it?

The first choice for us tanning addicts is the plain and simple fake tan. Arguably messy and time consuming, but positively cheap and accessible. There’s a lot of competition on the market but St Moriz definitely takes the title in my eyes. If you can afford to splash the cash on St Tropez then go for it, but if you’re trying to tan on a budget, St Moriz is your best friend. Trust me. It comes in a spray, mousse and gel form so you’re spoilt for choice. If you can’t afford a real holiday, you might as well buy a holiday in a bottle.

If you want to branch out and add a little bit of luxury into your life then you need to take a trip down spray tan lane. It might be a little embarrassing standing starkers in front of an absolute stranger, but I know I can certainly stomach the embarrassment in exchange for a gorgeous glow. Getting a spray tan is basically a 15 minute cheat holiday, and who can argue with that? Just don’t wear anything too tight else you’ll have to stand upright for three hours while it dries.

Now, for the super addicts, sun beds will be on the weekly agenda. Being stuck in a confined space wearing funny goggles isn’t everyone’s cup of tea (mine included), but it’s the best way to keep your tan topped up all year round. There are of course health risks attached to sunbeds which is why I tend to avoid them like the plague, but they may be well suited to the rebels among us.

With the month of July now upon us, it’s no wonder we’re all itching to get outside and work on our tans at every waking moment we get. But when you live in a country like England where it can go from Marbella temps to tropical storms by the time you can say ‘pass the sun cream’, it looks like artificial tanning is our best bet. If you can’t get it naturally, there’s nothing wrong with getting a little helping hand.
