Yesterday LVMH confirmed that former Balenciaga boss; Nicolas Ghesquière will replace Marc Jacobs as creative director of fashion house, Louis Vuitton. Jacobs who left the brand in October to focus on his eponymous label, has been at the helm of  Vuitton for the past 16 years, transforming it from a luxury luggage and accessories company into one of the bestselling and widely idolised fashion houses in the world.

It is hoped that Ghesquière who did similar transformative work at Balenciaga, would revolutionize the house again. Vuitton said Ghesquière would bring ‘a modern creative vision to the house’s women’s collections, building on the values of refinement, savoir faire and extreme quality’.

it was November of last year, that Ghesquière was unceremoniously forced from his position at Balenciaga when he was replaced by Alexander Wang.

He tells WWD: “Louis Vuitton has always incarnated for me the symbol of ultimate luxury, innovation and exploration… I am very honoured of the mission that I am entrusted with, and proud to join the history of this great maison. We share common values and a vision.”
