Milan Fashion Week: Marni S/S’14
The Marni show was one to remember, with visor clad models strutting their stuff in gorgeous
Japanese meets sports chic apparel. The sporty were given a charming elegance, and the
Japanese elements were subtle yet especially desirable and chic. There were tons of Kimono
influenced shapes, with belted, nipped in waists being central to the collection, alongside
beautiful oriental florals covering dresses and two-pieces. Of course, Marni didn’t stop there
with the florals. They took it one step further with this collection, making them 3D, adorning
most of the second half of the collection; Blossoming ruffled up flowers cascaded over the
garments. We can see the flower coated bomber jacket cruising through the streets come
spring/summer 14 on the backs of every fashion savvy skater girl!
Models rocked some fabulous Japanese style platform sandals, and the visors were the most
stylish piece of headgear we’ve seen at fashion week so far. Laid-back slouchy trousers were
given a super wide-leg overhaul, with deep turn-ups. Heavily embellishments gave sparkle
to some of the pieces, and we are particularly in love with the forest green leather bomber
jacket, with an embellished collar.
The collection had a colourful yet muted palette. It was refreshing to see a little colour, with
monochrome emerging as a key trend for spring/summer 14. Marni really hit the ball out of
the court with this one, giving us a completely covetable collection that we are just dying to be
seen in.
