Milan Fashion Week: Dsquared2 SS14
The lights went up to reveal a spectacular tiki bar, complete with huge tiki heads, palm trees,
and flowing drinks. When the models rolled out, we knew we were in for a treat as they
began to walk the runway, but not after stopping off at the tiki bar for a quick cocktail. With
a soundtrack packed with snippets of old movies, and the volumous hair, huge bejewelled
jewellery and 50’s style swimwear, we couldn’t help but see a whole host of Bond girls
strutting their stuff. Hollywood glamour reigned supreme with this collection, bursting with sex
appeal and allure that got our hearts positively racing.
Think holidaying in the Copacabana back in the early 60’s; cocktail in hand, cat eye
sunglasses on and a ginormous hat. The DSquared2 collection epitomised beach holiday
wear, with swimwear to die for, short and shirt combos that were oh-so charming, and Capri
pants, that we are currently scribbling down onto our spring/summer wish list. Tiger and
leopard prints were combined, giving jackets and swimwear a wild new edge. Chunky chain
and insect jewellery adorned the dazzling models, while they sauntered down the catwalk in
strappy heeled sandals.
The collection featured a monochrome palette, with bright colour pops of rich oranges, blue,
purple, yellow and pink. However summery the collection was, there were still chilly weather
elements, in the form of amazing crocodile leather jackets, with oversized sleeves, in coral
and bright blue, along with a pair of tan croc leather shorts. Light metallics came bounding
down the runway, embellished with sequins for added shimmer, as models wore yet more
lampshade style hats, but this time adorned with sparkle. Corsets were a focal point of the
collection, with nipped in waists and exaggerated, structured hips, paired with tiny bikini
bottoms, amplifying the female figure, and showing off legs for days.
DSquared2 put on an exceptionally tantalising affair that was fun and playful, yet
sophisticated. Such a tastefully sexy collection, that we just can’t stop talking about, but has
us very much wanting too jet off to a beautiful beach somewhere, ASAP!
