The all-inclusive is something of a British institution, and, even if somewhat recent, no less well-established for it. It’s a family holiday staple, that bundles everything into one neat package – meaning mum has a lot less wrangling to do to get everything in order. Of course, there’s still the matter of getting there.
Packing is simultaneously a vessel for excitement and for stress. It’s your first hands-on reckoning that you’re actually heading somewhere warm for a while, but it’s also your stake in the ground for exactly what you’ll be bringing with you – and what you’ll be cursing that you’ve forgotten. Find here, then, a handy little guide to packing efficiently for an all-inclusive holiday.

We’ll go over essential clothing, essential travel documents, and some not-so-essential extras that’ll set you up for a seamless, stress-free experience. If you want to get the absolute most out of your upcoming getaway, read on!
Essential Clothing for Day and Evening Wear
Let’s start with the obvious, then: clothes. You’ll already have some idea of what you need to bring along for your trip, but you may be missing out on some clever tricks to make your clothes stretch further, and maybe leave some more room in your luggage bag for souvenirs. For instance, when packing for all-inclusive holidays, it’s important that you cover a versatile range of clothing options that help you transition easily from relaxed daytime activities to more formal evening settings.
This doesn’t mean packing two or three evening gowns alongside shorts and t-shirts, though (unless, of course, you want to). The trick is to select for a modular set of clothes, which can be interchanged to create a variety of outfits.
Start with some lightweight base layers – linen shirts, light-coloured shorts or skirts and the like. Follow up with a variety of over-layers, ranging from light button-up shirts and shawls to cashmere or even a cardigan. These can be interchanged, and as day turns to night you can add layers for a touch of warmth or class accordingly.
Travel Documents and Practical Essentials
Next, the non-negotiables. Wherever you’re going, you’ll need your passport close to hand, so of course you’re going to pack it! The tip? Don’t pack it now. Leave it wherever you leave your keys in your house, and make it the very last thing you pick up before you leave your house. You don’t want to forget where – or, for that matter, if – you packed it, so make sure it stays with your other non-negotiables! Do the same for any print-out booking confirmations or plane tickets, and you’ll be set.
As for documents that are safer to pack in advance, your travel insurance details or EHIC card should be kept safely in a pocket in your luggage. This could be kept alongside the payment methods you intend to use abroad, whether a prepaid card or international bank account card.
Extras to Enhance Your Stay
Finally, you won’t want to forget these extras. Though many all-inclusive resorts provide more than just the basic amenities, it is nonetheless advisable that you bring some of your own, just in case. Sun cream is a big one here, for obvious reasons! You’ll also want to consider packing additional items like water bottles, travel adapters and charging blocks to keep yourself hydrated and connected during your stay.
