Raf Simons certainly created a collection this season that reflected his desire to modernize couture, presenting a lightness and airiness that is often lacking within the constraints of extravagant couture. The collection was free spirited and packed a lot of punch with its movement and wearability. The key here was the fantastic cutwork, with each outfit slashed and sliced to create a collection that was cool and contemporary. Overlays and veils of sheer silk covered polka dots, while garments shook and shimmered as they were paraded down the runway. The peek-a-boo features were more than welcome, and gave a more than welcome optimistic outlook on this years weather come spring, summer. Subtle embellishments of tiny sequins and beads decorated the pieces, as swooping curves and columns expressed Simons’ wonderment at the world of women.

All white pieces were the focus, with hints of pastels and a few stand-out pieces in black. There was a certain jacquard top which sparked plenty of buzz, as it appeared to feature a graphic of a woman on top of the world right in the centre. If this doesn’t cry out feminism then what does? It is clear that Raf Simons has certainly put women high up on a pedestal for this collection, and we certainly can’t complain. Giving off a message that women across the world are sure to be all over. Talk about crowd pleasing! All in all, this was a truly stunning collection from Christian Dior; it was pretty, summery and ever-so desirable.
