We’re giving you a sneaky peek into the life of some of the best females in busines from Mumpreneur’ s who’ve launched award-winning baby products. We ask them about their daily routines, how they started and what inspires their brand, how they stay focused, and what is next on the horizon.

This week we chat to Mumpreneur and founder of Baby Boosa, Mira Massih

A BIT ABOUT ME AND MY BRAND….

Baby Boosa exists to ‘Redefine baby and toddler products through sustainability, style, support and thoughtful design’. We aspire to only produce products with design that has genuinely been thought about, for the benefit of parents and children, including baby weaning and feeding sets,

Baby Boosa was born right out of both my life long dream to try and create something beauty or fashion related, and the insight I gained as a parent. I knew I wanted to do something with babies back in 2018 after my first child and started to develop something, but the timing wasn’t right to keep going. As soon as I found out I was pregnant with my second, I went straight into idea mode again…we used to say to our little boy, ‘baby boo-sah’ and he would kiss my belly when I was pregnant, this means ‘baby kiss’ in arabic’. The name was born and project leopard print (subtle single colour) bib began!

I struggled a lot with both of my pregnancies, suffering from quite intense sickness for the entire duration on each. Following that, feeding wasn’t straight forwards either, it’s so hard as a mum and with all of us facing challenges in many different ways, it’s very important to me that Baby Boosa provides valuable support or guidance for our community where it can. I’m so thankful for all the mums I’ve met along the way and the feedback from our first expert advice guide, ‘An introduction to weaning’…we released this to help provide a starting point when asking so many questions and not knowing where to start.

Thinking about the packaging, I wanted to do something different that really focused on improving sustainable options for consumers. We need to live in a more sustainable world without question, and so starting something new there is no excuse for businesses these days to not consider it from day one. No single use plastic bags, we got rid of it all and replaced them with our gifty reusable net storage bag, offering total practicality and so many uses for parents like keeping activity bits and bobs together, washing delicates in, or keeping bibs and bowls together in the baby bag.

THE THING I WISH I’D DONE DIFFERENT WHEN SETTING UP IN BUSINESS IS…

I honestly can say there isn’t much I would change. I tried out a different idea before this which I found was very time consuming and less scalable, so I just couldn’t keep up with enquiries and workload, the pricing was wrong and it really drained a lot of time. I lost the passion for it. Fast forwards a couple years and this evolved into my idea to create a must have bib, which I believe a nice and fashionable design is also somewhat of a necessity. If I didn’t experience the initial venture, I wouldn’t have recognised my new found passion in Baby Boosa as much, so I’m thankful for that experience.

MY BIGGEST INSPIRATION IS…

My parents. Having moved from Egypt decades ago with nothing, they really inspire me to work hard and value community. My Christian upbringing has really taught me the importance of community which is why in Baby Boosa, I really want to share my experience as a dentist where I can for parents who may not easily visit a dentist at the moment, but also partnering up with specialists to help provide free advice and guidance for our customers, followers (or competitors).

I’m also very inspired by @mellysophiamua for her dedication to her work and her faith, and @fashionbugblog for all things fashion. I’m a self-confessed big fan of leopard print, and since I know she is too, I thought to myself, if I could design a bib that @thefashionbugblg would love, that would be it! It makes me so happy seeing her use it at home and on holidays now!

MY SELF CARE ROUTINE IS…

I think I can recall what that was, around 2018, before I had my first baby. You have stumped me with this one, unless my husband stops me from doing anything or takes the kids completely, I must confess the routine has gone!

HOW I MANAGE TO RUN A BUSINESS AND MINI HUMANS…

I think the best way I can answer this is make quick decisions and get it done, there just isn’t time with two kids. My little girl is 9 months now, so in between the breast feeding and meal prep, I have very specific short windows of free time to do everything so I need to prioritise what needs to be done immediately, which is usually the customer service and social media, or if developing a new product I need to focus on this too so it arrives at the right time. I’ve got this timing wrong a lot lately because of our sell-out product launches! Thankfully I have sufficient child-care support at the moment for my son who is almost 3 now, which does help me balance everything during the days. My sister in law helps with the customer service when I’m in clinics as a dentist 2 x days a week, but come 5.30/6pm the kids rule for bath time and bedtime, that’s a routine that never changes, it’s concrete. During the day, or during this time, a big reminder I try to focus on when with the kids is to just be present, give them undivided attention. There are always distractions and general chaos, but I try my best with this, and well, let’s just say its handy spending time with the babies and developing products for them too, work and play go hand in hand a lot of the time! After bedtime, around 7.30pm my husband and I will have dinner (if not already before bath time), and then 4/5 evenings in the week I work on Baby Boosa from around 8.30pm – 9.30pm/10pm. My little girl has not been sleeping well and is generally up again at around 9.30pm and another 3-4x a night so that often cuts my evenings short. I’m hoping this changes soon!

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT BEING MY OWN BOSS IS…

What I absolutely LOVE is thinking up a design and just running with it, being more instinctive to try an idea and being responsible for it, there’s no one to blame for getting it wrong! There is nothing quite like seeing your idea come to life!

MY MORNING ROUTINE IS

There is rarely time to myself in the morning, it’s generally up around 7am (before that 11.30pm, 2.30am, 5.30am at minimum!), get the kids ready, if my husband hasn’t done it before me, (he’s pretty good actually!) then up for breakfast or straight off to the nursery drop off. I plan my day the night before generally in terms of Baby Boosa work load, so I’m clear on priorities to get done as soon as possible in the mornings, this really helps set my day right, at least in theory!

3 THINGS I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT ARE …

My family, a Baby Boosa Snack Surprise Pot, and unfortunately, my phone, Instagram is kind of important at the moment.

THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I CAN GIVE TO BUDDING MUMTREPENEURS…

If you’re willing to work at it, find something you are passionate about and be true to yourself, and remember when others try to imitate you, don’t be disheartened. This has been my greatest form of feedback that I am doing something along the right lines and to just keep going. Focus on you, do you, and I’m sure you will love what you create. So to all budding mumpreneurs, align your thing with your interest, your experience if possible, and your instinct. There will be some crazy/difficult days, but there will be lots of amazing days too, so just keep on going.

FUTURE PLANS FOR THE BRAND ARE …

I can’t reveal much, all I can say is more of what you have seen and there might be a few surprises along the way, I’m SO excited!
