Review: Kathryn Lewsey

With its 30-year-strong place in the hair industry, HOB has always maintained a reputation for excellent barnet service and talented hair-makers. So when I was invited to check out the brand’s Loughton brand, it was an offer I couldn’t refuse.

Located on a bustling high street, this spacious salon has a welcoming atmosphere and friendly, fast-paced vibe. I was at the salon to experience their Brazilian Blow-Dry, which uses the brand Nanokeratin. This intensive treatment claims to make locks smoother and frizz-free for around 12-weeks, so I was eager to see the results.

I was immediately taken over to the sink area, where my strands were washed twice – but not conditioned as it affects the treatment. Next, a much-needed Tangle Teezer was ran through my locks (conditioner really is the saviour for knotty hair), in preparation for the process.

The lovely Chloe was booked in to carry out the treatment and she quickly rough-dried my hair before beginning. My barnet was then divided into section, so that Chloe could meticulously cover every strand in the keratin treatment.

The product is formulated with nano-molecular keratin; these miniscule particles deeply coat the hair to help battle frizz and leave manes smoother, silkier and much more manageable.

My unruly locks are often an inconvenience and as the product was applied, Chloe made sure to target the areas that were worst affected by the frizz. I was left for thirty minutes to read magazines and enjoy my tea while the formula worked its magic.

Next, Chloe blow-dried my hair, before finally straightening each section with special keratin irons, which help to lock in the product.

The next part is probably the trickiest – you can’t wash your hair or tie it up for a whole three days, eek! Not tying it up meant I couldn’t go the gym (something I gladly welcomed!), but by the third day I was desperate to wash my rather greasy-looking locks.

Luckily, the wait was well worth it. The time it took to style my hair was dramatically shortened and it was in general, a lot easier to maintain.

Despite having to sit in the salon chair for a few hours – and skipping a few hair washing days – it’s a small price to pay for tresses that are smoother and much more manageable.
