Review: Kathryn Lewsey

Combining both training and salon service under one roof, SACO is a company that focuses on sharing its passion and barnet education with those looking to make it in the hair world.

Co-founded by iconic hairdresser Richard Ashforth, this global brand has salons and academies in the likes of Russia, Canada and the U.S.A. I headed over to their London branch in Fitzrovia to see what they had to offer.

Settling down in the hairdresser chair, I met the lovely My-ha who was set to dye my hair. Playing it safe, I wanted to stick to my usual balayge and asked for a colour refresh. As we chatted, My-ha worked to expertly apply a slightly lighter hue to my strands using the standard freehand technique to ensure a natural, sun-kissed finish.

I was left to sit with a few magazines and refreshing drink while the colour developed. Once my locks were ready, I was led over to the sink area where the dye was rinsed out. A good ol’ shampoo and condition, as well as a strand-repairing treatment, meant my locks were freshly washed and ready for a trim.

The sunnier months and usual heat appliances had led to a fair few split ends lurking in my barnet. I sat down with stylist JR and explained I was after a general reshape and healthy snip from the ends.

JR got to work, meticulously trimming my locks into a better shape and chopping a good few inches from the length. The result? A lighter, healthier and much more manageable barnet!

Finishing off my new locks, JR then speedily blowdried my hair into a bouncy, silky finish; as well as dishing out some tips on how I can get the same result at home (my terrible co-ordination skills mean I’m still working on that part!).

Bidding goodbye to the super friendly salon team, I skipped out of SACO with blonder, softer and shinier tresses.
