Review: Kathryn Lewsey

Amongst the hustle and bustle of an early evening in central London, it’s somewhat difficult to imagine ultimate indulgence and relaxation taking place. However, just metres away from the iconic St Paul’s Cathedral, Ajala Spa is just that.  Situated beneath the exclusive Grange Hotel, it’s an oasis of escapism and tranquillity where you can truly unwind.

Upon entering, you’re immediately greeted by Ajala’s friendly and professional staff and can sense the exotic, peaceful feeling that disperses from the Spa. After being offered a variety of drinks and filling out that all important allergies form, I was taken to a room to experience their Classic Relaxation massage.

The treatment, lasting a total of thirty minutes, featured a variety of blissful massage strokes with the use of Ajala’s very own oil. This particular one consisted of a deliciously fruity fusion of grapefruit and mandarin. The lights were dimmed and gentle tunes were played, which was instantly de-stressing.

Demonstrating expert knowledge, the techniques used were of a Swedish influence, ensuring ultimate relaxation.  The masseuse’s hands worked the perfect balance of vigorous and soft to create an overall feeling of sheer bliss. This particular massage is excellent for blood circulation, de-stressing and easing muscle tension, which worked wonders when smoothing out the knots in my shoulders. There were times where it felt almost impossible to stay awake! Easing my way back into reality, I was given a gorgeous scalp massage to finish the treatment.

Afterwards, the lovely masseuse offered tips and advice on how to keep those dreaded knots at bay and suggested regular massages to ease tension and muscles. Customers can then spend as much time as they want in the brilliant unwind room, which is beautifully bright with comfortable beds and chairs, offers delicious cakes, the latest glossy magazines and a selection of juices and teas. For a slice of luxurious pampering, Ajala is highly recommended.
