THE HOTEL REVIEW: THE PULLMAN, LIVERPOOL, UK

Review: Derrick Jones

THE HOTEL

Located on the bank of the famous river mersey in the  newly developed Kings Dock, a stones throw to the city centre’s heart. The Pullman Hotel was completed and opened in February 2016.

This ultra modern hotel is annexed with the Liverpool ACC and echo arena creating an almost futuristic business and commerce centre  regenerated from the remnants of Liverpool’s long dock history spanning almost three centuries with numerous framed pictures in the hotel paying testament to this.

lobby lounge

The entrance has a very modern feel, dynamic, spacious and well lit with modern tubular shaped hanging lights that span the ceiling. Reception staff use iPad technology and were floor walking making check-in effortless while guests were seated in the comfortable soft chairs of the lobby.

Our room on the top floor boasted fantastic views of the city, the conference and exhibition centre with the iconic big wheel in the forefront and of course the enigmatic river mersey without which the city wouldn’t be where it is today.

The room was complimented with a comfortable king bed, state of the art Smart TV and 5G wifi, air conditioning and a back wall mural of the dockland in its prosperous past, nautical rope lighting illuminate the head board area.

suite

A well designed bathroom with touch button Monsoon water shower, modern fittings, dark tiled walls and smoked glass give the room a warm ambiance.

There is a mini bar with complimentary bottled water in the room and tea/ coffee making equipment, a safe, a large double wardrobe with hotel monogramed gowns and slippers.

THE BAR

bar

Following on from the reception area the bar is the focal point in the lobby, spacious comfortable chairs set around low tables encourages you to relax with a drink of your choice, a good selection of beers and spirits, cocktails or tea and coffee on offer by the bar waiting staff, who, all dressed in white shirts with tweed waistcoats and flat caps, keep alive the dock workers uniform from days gone by, another simple reflection between past and present, an ideal starting point for an evening out in the city or a walk along the wharfage.

BREAKFAST

restaurant

Served in the restaurant area beyond the central bar, there is a large selection of cereals, fresh fruit and yoghurts, waffles and pancakes with honey or syrup, continental style with a range of cold meats and the traditional English breakfast self served from hot plates, and a chef making omelettes of your choosing. We chose juice from an wide selection on the bar, tea and coffee was served and then we both opted for the full English breakfast. The breakfast was a great start to a busy day and thoroughly enjoyable.

FACILITIES

On the first floor there is a fitness gym and private function lounge purpose built meeting conference area and bar.

A perfect place for a city break or a shopping extravaganza, a concert stop over or just a relaxing weekend to do absolutely nothing, well recommended.
